Here are some examples of pension calculations

1. Annuity Payable for Life:

Example:
Corpus: ₹10, 00,000
ASP: HDFC life (rate increase by 0.2%)
Base Rate: 6.0 +0.2% = 6.02%
Monthly Pension: (₹10, 00,000 × 0.062) / 12 = ₹5,167 and No return Annuity Price.

 

2. Annuity for Life with Return of Purchase Price on Death : Rate reduced by 0.2%; corpus returned to nominee at death.

Example :
Corpus: ₹10, 00,000
ASP: LIC (rate reduced by 0.3%)
Final Annuity rate: 6.0- (0.3 + 0.2%) = 5.5%
Monthly Pension = (₹10,00,000 × 0.055) / 12 = ₹4,583

 

3. Annuity Guaranteed for 5, 10, 15, or 20 Years and for Life Thereafter: Rate reduced by 0.05%–0.15% based on period (here 5 years).
Example :
Corpus: ₹10, 00,000
ASP: LIC (rate reduced by 0.3%)
Final Annuity rate: 6.0- (0.30 + 0.05%) = 5.65%
Monthly Pension = (₹10,00,000 × 0.0565) / 12 = ₹4,708 and no return purchase price.

 

4. Annuity for Life Increasing at a Simple Rate of 3% p.a: Annuity Rate reduced by 0.3%; pension grows by 3% yearly.

Example :
Corpus: ₹10, 00,000
ASP: LIC (rate reduced by 0.3%)
Final Annuity rate: 6.0 – (0.30 + 0.30%) = 5.40%
Monthly Pension = (₹10,00,000 × 0.054) / 12 = ₹4,500

 

Annuity Rates by ASPs (as of PFRDA Pension Bulletin, February 2023)

 

Below are the indicative annuity rates for ‘Annuity for Life’ without Return of Purchase Price offered by PFRDA-empaneled ASPs, estimated for 2025 based on the PFRDA Pension Bulletin, February 2023. As per the bulletin, the minimum rate was 5.44% (Star Union Dai-ichi), and the maximum was 9.24% (Shriram Life).
